The government has approved a new scheme named SHRESHTA (Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas) The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is launching a Scheme for Residential Education (SHRESHTA) for IX and XI SC students studying in high schools in targeted areas.

The government has identified 177 private schools. Around 1300 seats in grade 9 and 1700 seats in grade 11 are reserved for the students in these schools under the scheme. The scholarship amount under this scheme for grade 9 is Rs 1 lakh, for grade 10 is Rs 1.10 lakh, for grade 11 is Rs 1.25 lakh and for grade 12 is Rs 1.35 lakh per annum.

SHRESHTA  scheme, scholarships will be provided to the beneficiaries that will cover all the educational expenses of meritorious students from class 9th to 11th. Only students belonging to scheduled caste will be able to take benefit of this scheme.

All those students who qualify NETs exam will be shortlisted for admission to CBSE-affiliated schools. Through this scheme, scholarships will be directly disbursed to the schools that are giving admission to the shortlisted students.
